Lower Belvedere The Lower Belvedere was constructed from 1712 to 1716 after plans by the architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. Entering at Rennweg through the central gate, emblazoned with coats of arms and the Prince’s initials, originally one would have passed through the cour d’honneur directly into the Marble Hall. Whereas the Upper Belvedere mainly served the purposes of pomp and display, the Lower Belvedere was used as a residence. Parts of Prince Eugene’s collections were housed here, too.
