New Town Fire A fire started in the New Town where today's Spálená (Burnt Down) Street is located today, and 148 houses were destroyed. It happened on the Feast of Corpus Christi when people were away. 1689. Fire of the Jewish Town and Old Town. French arsonists started a fire inside the house At the Black Eagle in Kaprova Street and from there it spread to the whole of the Jewish Town and almost the entire Old Town. 707 houses and 5 churches burnt down. The fire reached even the New Town where Truhlářská and Soukenická Streets, as well as the New Mills Water Tower were destroyed.
