Old Town Fire A fire started in Dlouhá třída (Long Avenue) in the Old Town and spread as far as the gate in the New Town destroying many houses. 1753. Jewish Town Fire The whole of the Jewish Town burnt down. The fire seized the Old Town, too, and many houses in Dlouhá třída and Kaprova and Platnéřská Streets were destroyed. Meat shops burnt down, too. 1754. Jewish Town Fire On 17 May before midnight, such a fierce fire started that it devoured not only the whole of the town but a number of houses around St. Haštal (Castulus) Church, as well as the monastery of the Brothers Hospitallers, Old Town meat shops and one tower of St. Jakub Church turned into ashes. Before the houses were re-built, the Jews had dwelt in the area of Smíchov. 1757. During the Prussian siege of Prague, there were many fires in many places. 1773. Jewish Town Fire At the Rabbi's house in the Jewish Town, a fire flared up during the night from 23 to 24 June. It was noticed shortly after midnight but due to very difficult access it was not possible to extinguish it. It lasted until 4 am. Twenty Jewish houses burnt to the ground. It is noteworthy that the houses spared in 1753 were now destroyed.
