The Powder Tower One of the most distinctive monuments of late Gothic Prague dating from 1475 this tower is a monumental entranceway to the Old Town, through which the coronation processions of Czech kings entered the city. The Powder Tower still marks the starting point of the Coronation or Royal Route to Prague Castle. The viewing gallery is some 44 meters above the street. The foundation stone was laid in 1475, the construction overseen by a builder called Václav, and from 1478 on by Matěj Rejsek, who was also responsible in part for the wealth of sculptural decor. The tower is an interesting fusion of medieval and late 19th century construction, when it was finally completed.
