13 MAP Jezuitská street 13 In his early age, Janáček conducted the choir of the club and composed most of his early male choruses for it. Club activities were an important part of cultural life in Brno. One of the clubs, whose member was Leoš Janáček, was the Reading, Singing and Educational Club Svatopluk which was founded in 1868. Its motto was: Let's be united, loyal to the homeland! The choir of the club consisted purely of men and it remained as such except for a short period of time. The first choirmaster was Jan Nesvadba. Svatopluk found its location shortly after its founding in the building at Jezuitská Street 13. The years 1873-76, when Leoš Janáček worked here as a choirmaster, were the time of the greatest development. In addition to their own concerts, the ensemble participated in other festive events of other clubs. A club music school with a large number of students was founded there in 1895. Janáček composed his first pieces intended for a male chorus for Svatopluk, such as e.g. Ploughing, The Imposed Bridegroom, Inconsistency in Love, Forsaken or perhaps the most famous True Love.
