4 MAP Česká street 29 A pub where Janáček used to invite his friends. He gave parties there to celebrate the premieres of his operas. The Česká Street is one of the most important parts of the inner city, so it is no wonder that pubs grew like mushrooms after rain there. The Forman Beef and Beer Pub stands on the corner of Česká 29 also. Its origin dates back to the 19th century. Originally, it was the Česko-budějovická pivnice, in the 1880s the U Zlaté Prahy Pub. It was the meeting place of a group of actors from the nearby Theatre at Veveří, students and journalists. When the pub was purchased by Adolf Polenka, the name was changed to U Polenků, but its good reputation remained and it continued to be one of the places where not only the artistic Czech society used to meet, but where members of the Regional Council and others also liked to have lunch and a Pilsner. For example, it was the venue of Janáček's celebration after the premiere of The Cunning Little Vixen opera in the fall of 1924.
