The Jizera Mountains boast many lookout towers which differ in construction, height and views, their „queen” is the Štěpánka lookout tower in Příchovice. Numerous dams represent technical points of interests, the most well-known being the Josefodolská dam, the Soušská dam and the remains of the Ruptured dam. Plateaus are crossed by networks of cycle trails, hiking trails, and groomed cross-country ski trails (the Jizerská magistrála trail), and downhill skiing areas offering a variety of runs are also sought after centres. History of glass and bijouterie-making typical for this region presents the Museum of glass and jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou. Another attractive place to visit is the Regional Art Gallery in Liberec in the reconstructed Town Spa, which has a unique collection of Czech art of the 20th century extending to European art, and the Basilica of the Visitation in Hejnice with the International Center for Spiritual Rehabilitation. The regional capital is Liberec, a town known for its sports, culture and architecture, which is located under and sheltered by Ještěd Mountain, crowned with a masterpiece by Karel Hubáček, a Liberec-based architect. The unique construction shaped like a circular hyperboloid houses a hotel, a restaurant and a television transmitter.
