Regional Products up hill and down dale The largely mountainous Liberec Region is not very suitable for agricultural production, which made the local people focus more on crafts to make their living. Historically, the region has been known predominantly for its production of glass, jewellery, paste jewellery, and textiles. The Czech glass and the Jablonec paste jewellery are famous all over the world. Many distinguished artists and designers worked or still work in the Liberec Region, including Stanislav Libenský and Jaroslava Brychtová, Vladimír Kopecký, René Roubíček, Martin Hlubuček, Petr Novotný, Petr Pačinek, Bořek Šípek and others. The most significant centres of glass and paste jewellery production are located in the towns of Železný Brod, Jablonec nad Nisou, Nový Bor, Kamenický Šenov, Svojkov, Svor and Harrachov. The region of Bohemian Paradise has always been a rich deposit of precious and semi-precious stones, and particularly the town of Turnov is famous for processing the Bohemian garnet and the manufacturing of jewellery. The fine and unique gemstones of flaming red have enchanted and inspired a number of leading Czech jewellers and designers. Many glass and paste jewellery workshops offer tours of their premises with demonstrations of the production process, and often also allow the visitors to try and make something of their own. The development of glass, jewellery, paste jewellery, and coin production can be explored in the Museum of Glass and Paste Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou, in the museums in Kamenický Šenov, Nový Bor and Železný Brod, in the Museum of Bohemian Paradise in Turnov, and in The Treasury of Gemstones in Nová Paka. i map menu www
