It is the most sought-after institution of higher education in the Czech Republic, the largest university in Moravia, the second largest employer in the South Moravian Region. The University also has an influence over the cultural and social life in Brno; as an example, it runs the Mendel Museum, the Scala cinema, and actively participates in various projects in support of the region.
