Museum of Applied Arts Set Table Within the scope of permanent exposition of the Museum of Applied Artsthere was performed a completely new installation of presentation of works of Josef Hoffmann, an architect and designer, and his Wiener Werkstätte workshops. You can see the utensils, cutlery, sitting furniture and other interesting exhibits. The Set Table exhibition is also a symbolical reference to connection of Brno with life and works of Josef Hoffmann – in 1904, during the Set table exhibition in Brno, the Wiener Werkstätte were presented in a national museum institution for the first time in history. As from 1 December 2013, the entry to the permanent exhibition is free of charge. Permanent Exhibition Applied Art and Design The permanent exhibition of the Museum of Applied Artsin Husova 14 presents the most significant works of arts and crafts from the Moravian Gallery's collection. Its broad perspective reaches from the Middle Ages up to the first half of the 20th century in selected exhibit. As from 1 December 2013, the entry to the permanent exhibition is free of charge. Mucha – relation to His Native Town “ The exposition is placed in 4 halls of the newly reconstructed Renaissance building of the Old Town Hall, in the rear wing of which Mucha was born on 24 July 1860. The exposition aims at life and work of the worldwide known Ivančice man – a Secession painter, graphic artist and decorator, founder of Czech school of classic photographic acts. Historic Cellars of the Alfons Mucha Memorial The cellars are open only exceptionally, during exhibitions or important events in the town – the Asparagus feast (May), Ivančice Wake (June), Days of European Heritage (September). Josef Hoffman Birthplace Permanent exposition „Josef Hoffmann: Inspiration“ The permanent exhibition in the Native House of Josef Hoffmann is prepared based on co-operation of the Moravian Gallery in Brno and the Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art in Vienna (MAK). The exposition is called “Josef Hoffmann: Inspiration” and its main topic is the inspiration. The topic setting is based on established perception of Brtnice as one of the basic inspiration motifs of Josef Hoffmann, a place intensively loved by him. Current Exhibition in Native House of Josef Hoffmann A current exhibition is always open for all the visitors to the Native House of Josef Hoffmann in Brtnice in summer season. The exhibition is prepared by the Moravian Gallery in Brno in co-operation with the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna. Many independent exhibitions have already been held in the Native House of Josef Hoffmann, always aimed at presentation of works of important global authors in confrontation with works of Josef Hoffman. In this way, the visitors of current exhibitions have already had a chance to see the works of Fridrich Kiesler, Stanislav Kolíbal or Oswald Oberhuber. Gustav Mahler´s House Permanent exhibition „ Gustav Mahler´s Family“ There are exhibited three-dimensional exhibits, music instruments use in then families and areal materials showing the environment – all of them will introduce the visitor to the atmosphere of family environment, where the young and teenager Gustav Mahler lived with his mother, father and siblings. Permanent exhibition „Gustav Mahler and Jihlava“ The exhibition consists partially of three-dimensional objects , but mainly of flat materials (documents, texts and photographs), completed with original texts and descriptions. Audio – video hall A five-minute AV program is prepared for visitors, with the topic of „Place of Gustav Mahler in Modern Music“, with the title „Boy´s Magic Cornet“, on the basis of which the authors tried to eliminate the visitor´s prejudice that Mahler´s music is only difficult and non-listenable. These places are popular thanks to their genius loci, nature and authenticity which they mediate to visitors. The Traces of Modernism - International cultural and discovery route in the tracks of museum and cultural heritage of southern Moravia and north-eastern Austria of the first half of the 20th century aims to support tourism, spread awareness of the cultural identity of Central Europe and promote meetings among the region’s inhabitants as well as mutual understanding, through the involvement of significant house museums. The cultural route will guide you to places connected with lives of the leading figures of European culture in the first half of the 20th century setting trends for the development of modernism. The individual stops introduce the artists’ work; at the same time, they provide an insight into their private lives and enable visitors to get acquainted with places where these famous people lived and worked. There are four stops in the city of Brno: Dušan Jurkovič House, Leoš Janáček Memorial by a former organ school, Tugendhat House designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and the Josef Hoffmann Room in the Museum of Applied Arts of the Moravian Gallery in Brno, with a display of work by this renowned designer and a collection of products by the Wiener Werkstätte. Hoffmann will also take you to Brtnice where his birthplace houses a permanent exhibition of the architect’s oeuvre. In nearby Jihlava you can visit the Gustav Mahler House, while in Ivančice you can view an exhibition of Alfons Mucha. The linking element of the route is the MAK - Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art and its exhibition Wien 1900, a synthesizing account of the revolutionary development of central European culture in the early 20th century. Places involves exhibitions, lectures, cultural and educational events. The project is financed from the European Territorial Co-operation Austria – Czech Republic 2007–2013 EU programme, with the participation of the MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art, Moravian Gallery in Brno, Europaforum Wien and the Tourist Authority South Moravia.
