The coexistence of Silesians, Slovaks and Poles is ingrained in everyday life and is evident in the local cuisine, a specific dialect as well as folk architecture. The Silesian area around Těšín is bordered by a belt of the Silesian Beskydy Mountains featuring the legendary mountain peak Velké (Great) Čantoryje. The trails which line this mountain ridge are ideal for mountain biking, hiking or cross-country skiing activities. You will also find here an early settlement of the original Slavs and many chateaux which reflect the wealth of Silesian nobility. Fryštát Chateau in Karviná At the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, in the place where visitors to Karvina currently admire Fryštát, there originally stood a wooden castle. It was built here by the Piasts (the Polish monarchs) to be their second residence - the first was in Těšín (Cieszyn). The empirical chateau, which achieved its current form due to the family of Larisch-Mönnich, is the pride of Karviná and the entire area of Těšín (Cieszyn) Silesia. Visitors can choose from several visitor's tours. www.zamek-frystat.cz Pevnost „Na trati“ (Fortress 'On the Track') Military history enthusiasts, as well as people who want to learn about the events that preceded the Second World War, will appreciate a visit to the fortress called "On the track" near Bohumín. Here you will find part of the fortifications that protected the former Czechoslovakia before the rise of Nazism in the 1930s. www.bunkr-bohumin.cz Museum in Dolní Lomná The history of Dolní Lomné, one of the villages with typical Gorolski (Gorol- a term for local mountain-folk) culture and tradition, is commemorated in the museum of Dolní Lomné. The local school is housed in a wooden cottage where it has been since the mid-19th century. There is an exhibition where you can learn about the nature and beauty of the nearby old-growth forest of Mionší and you will see what a class looked like in which children were taught from the Dolní Lomná area and the surrounding hills. www.beskydy.cz/content/beskydy-dolni-lomna-muzea-lomnanske-muzeum.aspx Archeopark Chotěbuz One of the most important archaeological sites in the country is a hill above the village of Chotěbuz, near Česky Těšín , the Czech part of Těšín (Cieszyn). In prehistoric times, people used to live in the area above the original river corridor of the Olše (the Olza river) a few centuries BC and in the 8th century, Slavs built their settlement on this site. It is this original Slavic settlement that is commemorated in Archeopark that has gradually formed here under the supervision of historians. Visitors can see how the original inhabitants of the area used to live. www.archeopark-chotebuz.cz Trojmezí (Tripoint) Hrčava At first glance, it is simply a mountain glade through which a stream flows. A site like hundreds of others. However, this meadow beyond Hrčava, a village hidden in the dense forests of Silesian Beskydy Mountains, hides a very unique place. Here, the borders of the three neighboring countries, namely Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia meet. Velká Čantoryje Lookout Tower The watchtower atop the fabled Great Čantoryje Mountain is nearly thirty meters high. It is the highest peak in the Těšínské Mountains and the ridge forms the border between the Czech Republic and Poland. Views from the tower are not only of these two countries, but you can also see into Slovakia. Right at the lookout you can get some refreshments and a bit below the peak of Great Čantoryje, you can rest at a typical mountain chalet dating from 1904. www.cantoryje.cz i map menu www Velká Čantoryje Lookout Tower Dolní Lomná museum
