It is the gateway to the Jeseníky Mountains and is filled with historic monuments. Bruntál Castle The castle in Bruntál is one of the few that can boast with many original interiors. Thanks to its enormous charm, the castle was chosen as a location for shooting the fairy tale, ‘The Emperor and the Drummer Boy’ and the story, ‘Goldsmith Andrew’. The castle stands on the original Gothic stronghold. The castle’s current look comes from the beginning of the 20th century. Karlova Studánka was named after Karl Ludwig, who defeated Napoleon in the battle by Aspern. www.horskelazne.cz Krnov Krnov has preserved much of its history. It is situated at the confluence of the Opava River and the Opavice River near the border with Poland. Krnov is known for its textile industry, as well as its organ factory. Rieger-Kloos organs are played in churches and concert halls, literally, around the world. Slezské Rudoltice Castle Slezské Rudoltice Castle grounds, alone, are spectacular. The castle, nicknamed the Silesian Versailles, has large premises, which are connected to a small plaza where time seems to stop. It also has a park with a small lake and huge trees. www.slezskerudoltice.cz The Křížový vrch hill above Rýmařov On the top of the Křížový vrch hill at Ruda u Rýmařova, you can find a cross with the Christ’s body in life size. The work from the 18th century is the impressive twelfth stop of the Way of the Cross from the local church. Mount Praděd A viewing tower stood on the highest mountain of Moravia and Silesia at the beginning of the 20th century. It resembled a Gothic tower and its observation deck was 32 meters above the ground. It was built out of stone from the nearby Tabulové Rocks. This material, however, proved to be unsuitable, because it crumbled and the tower was no longer safe. The tower was scheduled for reconstruction but collapsed in 1959. So, instead of reconstructing the old tower, the city decided to build a new modern tower that could receive television signal transmissions. Thus, the top of the television transmitter reaches 1,637 meters, which makes it the highest accessible point in the Czech Republic. www.hotelpradedvysilac.cz The Lava Flow at Mezina Set out in an abandoned quarry where admirable stone pillars, which were made by cooling of molten lava flowing from the Venus‘ volcano, are standing. You can reach this basalt creation by following the educative trail called Through Volcanos of the Bruntál Region. www.mubruntal.cz/navstevnik The Rešovské Waterfalls The crystal clear water rushes through a narrow canyon, over a riverbed and then drops 10 meters. This is what one of the most picturesque locations and the biggest waterfall of the Nízký Jeseník Highlands. Not to mention, it is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Czech Republic, altogether. The waterfall hinterland is a national natural reserve.
