Jihočeský kraj Landštejn One of the most important sites in Central Europe preserved from the Romanesque era was originally built at a strategically important point by the Moravian Přemyslids in early 12th century. The site evolved from its Romanesque beginnings and was gradually expanded throughout the Gothic and Renaissance periods when it was owned by the Krajíř of Krajek family and fi nished with artillery bastions in the Baroque era. The castle took a turn for the worse when it was struck by lightning in 1771, burned down in the resulting fi re and fell into disrepair. The romantic ruins you can visit today don’t have set tour routes and can be freely explored. From the tower you can enjoy the view of the so-called Czech Canada. Recent archaeological discoveries show the day to day life, the lifestyle and erudition of the castle’s owners and in the dungeons under the donjon there is a castle lapidarium. +420 384 498 580 landstejn@npu.cz www.hrad-landstejn.cz
