Plzeňský kraj Plasy A Cistercian monastery in the valley of the Střela River is unique among the Plzeň region historic sites. The monastery was founded in 1144 and underwent an extensive reconstruction lead by architects Santini and Mathey. The convent was built on a fl ooded river terrace on a grid of 5100 wooden stakes that reinforce the marshlands on which it stands. The water level has to be kept stable by an ingenious system which is sometimes open to the public. You can see the air passages, underground spaces and learn about the water prison. There are four tour routes – The Convent, The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, The Granary with a Gothic chapel and a clock tower and the Stretti Gallery which is available by prior arrangement. Apart from traditional guided tours there is also a tradition of Cistercian Nights with costumed guides several times a year. +420 373 322 174 plasy@npu.cz www.klaster-plasy.cz
