Plzeňský kraj Švihov One of the youngest Bohemian castles, the water castle Švihov was built between 1480 and 1489 by Půta Švihovský of Rýzmberk and modifi ed by architect Benedikt Ried. The castle includes two residential palaces, a fi ve storey gate tower, a chapel built on a bastion and fragments of four bastion fortifi cation system. Švihov was one of the best fortifi ed castles of its time thanks to the use of a system of water moats. After the Thirty Years’ War it was uninhabited, turned into a granary and later totally abandoned. In the second half of the 20th century it was rescued and opened to the public and today it is a popular destination for tourists, weddings and fi lmmakers. It was used as a location for a popular fairy-tale fi lm Three Wishes for Cinderella in 1973 and it is therefore sometimes called Cinderella’s castle. +420 376 393 378 svihov@npu.cz www.hradsvihov.cz
