Středočeský kraj Sázava The Slavic Benedictine abbey was founded by St. Prokop a harmit near his cave above the Sázava River in 1032. The Slavic monks were expelled and in 1097 Latin Benedictines from the Břevnov monastery replaced them. You can see the unearthed foundations of the Romanesque era church in the north garden. The unfi nished triple-nave church and its red stone tower leave an unrepeatable impression. The chapter hall was also built in the Gothic style and has a beautiful vaulted ceiling and unique murals, especially the Sázava Madonna. On the vaults of the cross ambulatory you can see images from the monastery’s history showing its Baroque reconstruction. The pilgrimage church of St. Prokop was designed by K.I. Dienzenhofer. There is an annual pilgrimage and other faith related events take place here year round. +420 327 321 177 sazava@npu.cz www.klaster-sazava.cz
