Bohemian Forest Špičák Špičák A region of winter fun Bohemian Forest Čerchov Winter in the Plzeň region is especially beautiful in the Bohemian Forest. Hundreds of kilometres of tracks satisfy every cross-country skier’s needs. The so called Bohemian Forest’s Mainline interweaves the Bohemian Forest from Železná Ruda all the way to Lipno Dam in South Bohemia. You can enjoy this remarkable trail all year long – simply replace your skis with a bike in summer. Cross-country skiing enthusiasts can also head to the Upper Palatine Forest in the region of Domažlice. This untouched countryside is particularly suitable for those who enjoy peaceful cross-country skiing. Not as many skiers come here as they do to the Bohemian Forest, so those that do literally feel like they are in paradise. The cross-country trails go through the surroundings of Čerchov Mountain and can lead you all the way to our German neighbours. You can also go for relaxing cross-country skiing trips to the Brdy Hills in the Rokycany region. Devotees of pistes and snowboarding can enjoy themselves in the Bohemian Forest. You can choose from tens of ski resorts. A four-chair lift takes people to the peak of Špičák Mountain, elevated 1,202 metres above sea level. It can move almost 2,500 skiers per hour. Snowboarding enthusiasts can go crazy in the great terrain park. The oldest ski school of the Bohemian Forest operates at Špičák Mountain, which offers excellent conditions for small beginners. The resorts warmly welcome families with children as well. The Samoty, the Nad Nádražím and the Belveder resorts in Železná Ruda or skiing in Kašperské Hory and other places – it is up to you to choose your resort from among the wide offer. Ski touring has also made its way to the Bohemian Forest in the recent years. The Mountain Rescue service marked out several ski touring trails in the Železná Ruda region. Thus, you can set out for a difficult climb on Špičák Mountain or for a relaxed ski tour trail via Devils’s Lake. You don’t have to take your skis to plough through the Bohemian Forest during winter. Many winter tracks are good for walking or even pulling children in a plastic sled. You can explore the mountain terrain, e.g., using snowshoes with a mountain guide. Administration of the Bohemian Forest National Park organises snowshoe trips for tourists every year. Ice skating is a very popular sport as well. There are two ice rinks in Plzeň. A new modern ice stadium has also been built in Třemošná, not far from Plzeň. There is an ice rink in every big town, e.g. in Klatovy, Rokycany, Tachov and Sušice.
