Overlooking the historical city center, the Schlossberg (Castle Hill) offers several interesting places to visit, both inside and out, including a clock tower. The casemates, dating back to the 16th century, were significantly expanded during WW II, but did not attain their current appearance until just a few years ago. They contain exhibition spaces carved into the rock and there is also an open-air stage. Of the numerous landmarks located in the city center, particularly the Landhaus (1557) is worth mentioning. This former house of the Styrian estates, which has a beautiful arcaded courtyard reminiscent of the Venetian palaces, is a wonderful example of Mannerist architecture. In the Joanneum Quarter, historical architecture meets the modern in the underground exhibition halls.
