OBJECTS Femme fatale Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939) Study for Menu, 1899 Silver-bromide print; 16.3 x 11.7 cm Staged photographic studies served Mucha as sketches and patterns for further work. From today’s perspective, however, these are independent works of singular aesthetic quality that capture his female and male models before Mucha transformed them into highly stylised motifs of flowers, gemstones, months of the year and various out-of-this-world creatures.
