Many of their future pedagogues graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Prague. From 1888, Emanuel Novák headed the school’s specialised metalworking department. He designed jewellery in the historicising vein, lending structure to his blend of folk art motifs and dynamic Art Nouveau lines, mascaroons, and vegetal forms. Together with his students, Novák designed and executed a jewellery collection for the Paris Exposition Universelle held in 1900 (Inv. No. 20 138).
