OBJECTS Art Associations and the Visual Style Václav Hradecký (1867–1940) Cover for L’Assiette au Beurre, No. 105, 1903 Colour lithograph on paper, 31.5 cm x 24.5 cm L’Assiette au Beurre was a satirical, anarchistic magazine published in Paris from 1901 to 1912, which sharply criticised social and political conditions via full-page caricature illustrations. Georges d’Ostoya, Jossot, Theophile Alexandre Steinlen and Félix Vallotton were its most prominent authors; a number of Czech artists who lived in Paris also contributed to the magazine, among them František Kupka, Václav Hradecký and Vojtěch Preissig. Hradecký, who lived in Paris in the first decade of the 20th century, contributed to L’Assiette au Beurre from 1902 to 1905; furthermore, he created two independent issues and presented his drawings in ten other numbers.
