OBJECTS Interiors and the Art of Furniture Design Electric heating pot, after 1907 Peter Behrens (1868–1940), design Manufactured by AEG, Berlin Copper, brass; height 26 cm This three-quarter-litre electric heating pot made of copper and embellished with hand-punched decoration was designed by Peter Behrens, a German architect and designer, and director of the School of Applied Arts in Düsseldorf. The product was manufactured by AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gessellschaft, established in 1887 and still in operation today) that hired Behrens as an art consultant in 1907. Besides designing industrial products, Behrens was also instrumental in designing the firm’s visual profile – from its logo to the architecture of its factory buildings.
