OBJECTS Metamorphoses of Nature: Organic Morphology Mosaic picture of a girl’s head, 1900 Franz Hofstätter, attributed to Johann Lötz Witwe glassworks, Klášterský Mlýn (Klostermühle) Pieces of flat glass, iridescent, engraved, painted in black, set in plaster, copper sheet (frame); 41.5 x 26.5 cm Both of these figurative mosaics were formerly housed in the villa of Knight Maxmilian Spaun (proprietor of the Klostermühle glassworks) that was designed by Leopold Bauer in 1903, together with some of its furnishings. Based on a description in the exhibition catalogue for the Paris International Exhibition of 1900, these two artworks were likely to have been shown at the glassworks’ display at that World’s Fair.
