OBJECTS Interiors and the Art of Furniture Design Tea and coffee service, c. 1905 Orion, Nuremberg Pewter, cast; max. height 24 cm (coffee pot) Small metalworking firms in Germany and Austria produced a great variety of metal beverage services made of tin alloys. This five-piece tea and coffee service, decorated with stylised scrolling leaf patterns, was manufactured by the Nuremberg Orion firm (1903–1906). Within a mere three years on the market, the company’s output comprised some 250 models of diverse forms and designs. In 1906, the firm’s management was taken over by the competing company Orivit (already under the control of Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik at the time) that incorporated into its assortment some fifty original models from Orion. The firm’s mark and model numbers 200 through 204 are inscribed on the objects’ undersides.
