Follow the Red, Green, Blue and Yellow Trails around the Equator Tourist marking The members of the Czech Tourist Club have been marking hiking trails since 1889, and also trails for skiers and cyclists since 1997. The created network of marked hiking trails is considered the best in Europe thanks to its density, quality and complete coverage of the entire country. The first trail of the Czech Tourist Club (CTC) was made in 1889 when the “marking team” used a red mark to connect Štěchovice and Svatojánské proudy. In 1912, the first long-distance trail marking from Prague through Brdy to Šumava was completed. It was most popular before WWII when it had 110 thousand members (covering the Czech and Slovak republics), built 150 tourist chalets and managed many castle ruins. At present, the Club has 34 thousand members and owns 35 tourist chalets. The Club maintains tourist marking: there are 1,500 markers – volunteers who maintain 42 thousand kilometres of hiking trails, as well as cycling, skiing, wheelchair accessible and horse-riding trails. Wheelchair accessible trails: Wheelchair pictogram on the sign www.trasy.kct.cz Safety on hiking trails Nature is our joint wealth. As such, it should remain freely accessible and it should serve everyone to recreation and tourist and sports use while observing the necessary rules on how to behave in nature and how to protect nature. Educational trails: green stripe on a white background General Tourist Codex Consideration for other people and nature is the basic rule. Bear in mind that we are all vulnerable in case of collision. When using headphones, it is hard to hear surrounding sounds, therefore, be more vigilant. Stop and rest on the side of the trail. Pack your trash and take it with you. Protect the trail marks, notify the Club of any defects. We go to nature to relax, not to fight and get angry. Direction sign Hiker’s Codex Leave a free lane on common trails for cyclists to pass. When hiking, watch for traffic in front of and behind you and notify others of any cyclists or skiers. Give the cyclist or skier a signal that you know about them. Do not walk in the ski track. Watch your children and dogs so that they do not move into the path of a bicycle or obstruct a track. Hlídej své děti a psy, aby nevběhli pod kolo či do stopy.
