Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, one of the most important Czech orchestras, is entering its‘ seventh decade with a new Artistic director Heiko Mathias Förster. Abroad we aim to promote the Czech music which is the orchestra‘s domain, in Ostrava we want to present the best and most interesting world-class pieces interpreted by the top conductors and soloist from all around the world. Since the establishment in 1954 we‘ve been strenghtening the position as one of the best Czech orchestras. But we are not getting old: even after sixty years among top Czech orchestras we have a lot to show up. And our new Chief-conductor brings new impulses thanks to his 25-years-old experience with the German orchestras. The orchestra is regularly invited abroad (recently USA, Korea, China, Germany, Austria to name just a few), and it performs with both young promising stars and famous soloists and conductors. The orchestra further focuses on the concerts for children and their education, we are launching new programmes for the elderly as well. Our repertoire ranges from the very classics to recent undiscovered pieces. All the musicians belong to the top of their field, but the biggest advantage of the orchestra is its complexity: musicians are well coordinated and at every concert they serve a convincing performance. The orchestra is known for a distinctive soft sound of the strings and for its uncompromising wind section. And those afraid that 60 years is a bit too much should attend one of our concerts and check out the freshness of our music. That is precisely our mission.
