2.1 COLLECTIVE ACCOMMODATION ESTABLISHMENTS CAPACITY In 2012, there were altogether 7,631 collective accommodation establishments in the Czech Republic, housing 184,659 rooms with 472,015 beds. These collective accommodation establishments could be subdivided into hotels and hotel-like establishments amounting to 4,672 in 2012, housing 118,960 rooms with 271,427 beds; and other collective accommodation establishments whose number was 2,959, housing 65,699 rooms with 200,588 beds. Methodology Since 2008 information on capacities is derived from the statistical research by CZSO about guests at tourism collective accommodation establishments, which is based on utilization of the Register of Accommodation Establishments. The published data are a summary of processed data for submitted questionnaires and additionally calculated data for those facilities from which the questionnaire was not received. In this case information on capacity from the Register of Accommodation Establishments was used, which is continuously updated from the research results and from available information sources. Main published indicators Collective accommodation establishments – facilities with at least five rooms or ten beds serving the purposes of tourism, i.e. providing temporary accommodation of guests for holiday, tour, spa care, business trip, training, course, congress, symposium, stay of children on school trips, summer and winter camps etc. Among collective accommodation establishments are hotels, motels, boatels, pensions, hostels for tourists, holiday dwellings, camps and other accommodation premises. Among other accommodation facilities are for example corporate recreational establishments, training centres, cultural-historical buildings, spa facilities and other accommodation complexes, which have bed capacity for tourism (e.g. youth homes, college dormitories, company dormitories etc.). Number of rooms – total number of rooms serving tourism. Not included are rooms for accommodating staff, owners of facilities and rooms for long term accommodation of employees of other companies (more than 1 year). Apartment or cottage, which serves to accommodate a single family, counts as one room. Number of beds – total number of permanent beds allocated exclusively for the rest of guests – not including occasional beds, so called extra beds. Number of beds for tents and caravans – number of lots for placement of tents, house trailers, caravans. Minimum average net area for a tent and a passenger vehicle is 30 m2, for a house trailer and a passenger vehicle or a caravan 60 m2.
