Use of rooms – is based on the number of realized room days (i.e. total number of days that the room was occupied by at least one guest). Congress/Conference – a congress/conference is deemed formal meeting of a greater number of people (starting at 100 persons) with a certain expert focus, subject of which are presentations, lectures, discussions and consultations. This can be a convention of science workers, assembly of diplomats from individual states and so on. A typical characteristic of a congress is an accompanying programme (it’s usually connected with excursions, cultural and social programme and gastronomy events). Numbers of establishments – included are collective accommodation facilities, which hosted a congress/conference with at least 100 participants. Numbers of events – included are congresses/conferences in collective accommodation establishments with the number of participants of 100 and more. Numbers of participants – included are persons attending congresses/conferences for 100 and more participants in collective accommodation establishments. All the data relate to the Czech Republic in 2012, unless otherwise stated. More detailed information is found at www.czso.cz In 2012, the total of 13.6 million guests lodged in the collective accommodation establishments in the Czech Republic, of which 7.2 million were foreign and 6.5 million domestic visitors. In the same year, the accommodated guests stayed in total 39.6 million nights in the accommodation establishments, of which foreigners accounted for 20.5 million nights and domestic visitors for 19.0 million nights. Traditionally, foreign visitors came most frequently from Germany (over 1.4 million arrivals to collective accommodation establishments in the Czech Republic), followed by Russia (over 690,000), and Slovakia (nearly 390,000 arrivals). The most frequently visited regions in the Czech Republic are the capital city of Prague (39.5 % of all visitors arriving to Czech collective accommodation establishments), followed by the South Moravia (8.1 %) and South Bohemia regions (7.4 %). Methodology Source of information about visitor rate in collective accommodation establishments and congress tourism is the regular research by CZSO, which since 2003 includes full scope of collective accommodation establishments. Research is divided into monthly survey based on hotels and similar collective establishments and quarterly research containing remaining accommodation facilities. Information on guests is a summary of processed data for submitted questionnaires and data statistically calculated for accommodation facilities, from which the completed questionnaire was not obtained. Information about the number of congresses/conferences and the number of participants is a summary of data from processed questionnaires. The number of facilities includes all collective accommodation establishments, which during the reference period have recorded at least one event with 100 and more participants. Main published indicators Collective accommodation establishments – see definition in chapter 2.1 – Capacity of Collective Accommodation Establishments. Guest – every person (not including staff and owner of the accommodation facility, who live here), who used the services of the facility for temporary accommodation including children. A guest can use the services of the accommodation facility for various purposes with the exception where it would be used for employment services or a proper study (if the time of its use exceeds 1 year). In corporate (union) recreational establishments and training centres a guest is deemed to be every person, who used the facilities for temporary accommodation for the abovementioned reasons, whether these are company’s employees themselves (e.g. union members), their family members or outside people. In therapeutic spas a guest is deemed to be every person who undergoes a spa treatment regardless of the complexity of treatment etc. Persons using accommodation facilities services as temporary residence are not counted as guests. Arrival of a guest starts at the moment of his registration in the accommodation establishment. Number of overnights – total number of overnights (nights spent) of guests staying in accommodation establishment in the monitored period.
