2.5 FOREIGN TOURISM IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC – FOREIGN EXCHANGE EARNINGS AND SPENDINGS In 2012, foreign exchange income from foreign tourism in the Czech Republic amounted to USD 7,037.5 million. Compared to 2011, this indicator dropped by 8.3 %. In 2012, foreign exchange expenditures for foreign tourism in the Czech Republic amounted to USD 4,295.8 mil. Compared to 2011, this indicator also showed a drop by 5.7 %. In 2012, balance of foreign tourism in the Czech Republic amounted to USD 2,741.7 million. Compared to 2011, this indicator also showed a drop by 12.1 %. Methodology Source of information about foreign incomes and expenses from foreign tourism is the Balance of Payment put together quarterly by the Czech National Bank. The basis for its compiling are the statistics of foreign trade with goods and service (CZSO), information from the reports of bank and non-bank entities, information from administrative sources from central authorities and other institutions, and furthermore CNB’s own calculations. The Balance of Payment portrays foreign economic transactions (i.e. between residents and non-residents) during a certain time period. Basic structure of the Balance of Payment includes current, capital and financial accounts and change in reserves. Information on tourism is contained in the current account of the Balance of Payment. Current account portrays flow of goods (export and import) and services (incomes and expenses from transportation services, tourism and other trade and nontrade services), yields from capital, investment and work (interests, dividends, reinvested profits, job incomes) as well as compensating items to real and financial sources provided or obtained without a counter value (common one side transactions such as for example gifts, alimony, pensions, foreign help, donations and others).
