In the Footsteps of Yettie in the Czech Mountains The Czech Mountain Rescue Service submitted a project called “In the Footsteps of Yettie in the Czech Mountains” within the framework of the National Tourism Support Programme and it was approved. The project aims at families with children. It is planned for two years and relates to all seven mountain areas covered by the Mountain Rescue Service. Primarily, it focuses on presentation of key benefits of individual mountain areas with a special focus on mountain visitors’ safety and nature protection. Through a fun competition aiming mainly at the young generation, it implants good behavioural patterns for visiting mountains and nature in its participants. The project consists of several presentation and promotion activities at international, national and regional levels. It focuses mainly on Czech visitors. The TOP offer of Czech mountains is also intended for foreign tourists. The project thus supplements the CzechTourism’s offer and contributes to uniform presentation of the Czech Republic. The project is based on co‑operation with information centres, regional offices, national parks and natural reserves administrations and tourism organisations in tourist regions. Tourism promotion is thus coordinated thanks to regular meetings and exchange of information. The legend of Yettie who moved from the Himalayas to small Czech mountains to find out that there is adventure even here, will help you motivate children and plan suitable trips and holidays. You can follow Yettie’s trail for long, whether on foot, by bicycle or cross‑country skis. Rules of the game are very simple. There are over 150 stamp points in the Czech, Moravian and Silesian mountains. Players collect stamps to the Yettie’s passport and then exchange them for original Yettie’s badges. Seven stamps will get you a basic green badge, 14 an advanced orange badge and 21 stamps a prestigious red badge. Holders of red badges are entitled to take part in a draw and win interesting prizes and souvenirs to remind them of their tracking of Yettie. The game starts in May 2013 by a series of promotion events. You can plan your collection strategy already now at Yettie’s website www.jetik.info. The website contains tips for tours and trips to well‑known and unknown locations in the Czech mountains, a calendar of interesting events, principles of safe stay in the mountains, detailed rules of the game and other information adapted to young readers. You can also download and print out Yettie’s passport. And then just pack you backpacks, lace up your shoes and off you go! TOURISM IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC IN 2012
