1. 8  International Statistics In absolute terms, the highest number of collective accommodation establishments can be found in Italy followed by the United Kingdom and Germany. As per capita, however, Liechtenstein is the country with the highest density of collective accommodation establishments, followed by Italy, Greece, Austria and Ireland. In absolute figures, in 2013 Italy accommodated the largest number of foreign guests (50.2 million), followed by Spain (49.8 million) and France (43 million). Germany, UK and Austria followed with a gap. Sweden, France and Iceland are the most popular countries relative to the size of population. Chapter International statistics Chapter is focused on international comparison of statistical data on tourism for select European Union states. In accordance with the Regulation (EU) No 692/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 6 July 2011 concerning European statistics on tourism the member states are obligated to regularly send data on tourism collective accommodation establishments of their national area (Part A of the “Directive”), on visitor rate in above mentioned category of accommodation facility (Part B of the “Directive”). Sub-Chapters A and B create a so called “supply side” of tourism. Finally Part C of the document includes indicators for outgoing and domestic tourism of member state residents. Information of lesser detail are sent quarterly, annually contain more structured segmentation of information on member state tourism. Information about tourism statistics for individual member states is collected by the European Union Statistical Office that resides in Luxembourg.
